Many Evangelical Voters Are Undecided

One out of eight evangelicals chooses to vote third-party

The current election season has been unlike any other, by many estimates. According to a new report from Barna, many right-leaning faith segments show preference to the Republican candidate, including 55 percent of voting evangelicals.

However, many evangelical voters have yet to make a decision. According to George Barna, “Although Trump has a huge lead over Clinton among evangelicals, the most noteworthy finding in this regard is that more than four out of ten evangelicals currently refuse to vote for either of those two candidates. Nearly three out of ten are presently undecided, making them the largest block of undecided votes still up for grabs. One out of eight evangelicals plan to protest the quality of the major party candidates by voting for a third-party or independent candidate. This behavior by evangelicals is unique over the course of the last nine election cycles.”

While votes do count, we must both personally remember and educate our congregations that God is ultimately in control.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
