The Search for Jesus

The day after Easter, many Americans are still looking for answers

Millions of churchgoers across the country heard about Jesus’ death and resurrection on Easter Sunday. But what do Americans really believe about Jesus Christ?

According to the Barna Group, 93 percent of people in the U.S. believe Jesus was a real person who lived. About 43 percent accept Him as God incarnate — God in human form — while just over 30 percent say God called Jesus to reveal His purpose in the world. Nine percent say Jesus merely embodied the best of humanity, and 8 percent say He was a great man and teacher, but not a divine being.

More Americans search online for “church” around Easter than at any other time of year.

Though Americans are divided in their views about Jesus and Christianity, many are looking for answers, especially this time of year. According to an analysis of Google trends by Pew Research Center, more Americans search online for “church” around Easter than at any other time of year, with most of those searches happening the week before the holiday. However, by the time the summer months arrive, searches for “church” are consistently low, Pew reports.

Now is the time to follow up on visitors who showed up for Easter services — and help those who are still searching to discover the truth about who Jesus is.
