The High Value of American Religion

What religion is worth to the U.S. economy

Influence Magazine on September 16, 2016

Religion is valuable to many Americans, and a new study has determined religion to be worth $1.2 trillion per year to the U.S. economy.

What exactly does that mean? Researchers have calculated that the charitable work completed by religious people and institutions really add up. According to Religion News Service, this work amounts to:

  • 130,000 alcohol and drug abuse recovery programs
  • 94,000 programs to support veterans
  • 26,000 programs to prevent HIV/AIDS and to support those diagnosed
  • 121,000 programs to support unemployed workers

Titus 3:14 says, “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.”
