Influence magazine garnered four awards — including two top honors — at the annual Evangelical Press Association (EPA) convention, held earlier this month in Orlando, Florida.

EPA hosts two annual contests: the Awards of Excellence (publication as a whole) and the Higher Goals (for the individual pieces produced — writing, photography, design, etc.). Awards are announced during the annual EPA convention.

In the Awards of Excellence contest, which acknowledges overall excellence compared to peer publications, Influence received high honors by earning the top award, the Award of Excellence, in the Christian Ministry Print category.

“This magazine reflects the ultimate trinity of successful publications,” said Award of Excellence judge Jeanette Littleton. “The writing quality, content variety, and visual elements unobtrusively blend to create a seamless reading experience for ministry leaders.”

In the Higher Goals contest, Influence also took a first-place award in the Typography and Lettering category for a piece produced by Influence designer Steve Lopez, titled “The Protestant Reformation: Why It Still Matters to Pentecostals,” which appeared in the magazine’s October/December 2017 issue.

The judge said, “Every typographic element on this page is perfectly placed with precision and creativity. The color palette is exquisite…”

Influence also received a second-place Higher Goals award in the Design category.

The judge wrote, “This publication is outstanding and shows excellence and care for design on every spread. This little mini mag is huge in design. Killer typography, super fresh approaches to their unique content, nice integration of photography and illustration. Overall great job.”

Finally, Influence garnered a second-place Higher Goals award in the two-page spread category for Lopez’s design work for the October/December 2017 Protestant Reformation feature.

The judge said, “This spread is SO WELL DONE! The color palette is yummy. The typography is precise and orderly but still surprising. This shows fine craftsmanship. And the cool illusion created by the Martin Luther image coming through the huge type, making it almost invisible, is super cool!”

The EPA contest honored the best work in Christian publishing from the 2017 calendar year among 168 print and 59 digital member publications. Members include some of the most recognized names in the Christian publishing world.
