Magazine wins awards for publishing excellence

Influence Magazine on April 28, 2017

Influence magazine garnered five awards — including two top honors — during the annual Evangelical Press Association (EPA) convention, held earlier this month in Lombard, Ill.

Influence took first place in the Evangelism Article category for a feature by Rice Broocks titled “Becoming an Engaging Church,” which originally appeared in the magazine’s April/May 2016 issue. Judges also awarded Influence first place in the Department category for “Like a Leader.” (Visit the Influence archives to read past issues of the print magazine.)

The EPA contest honored the best work in evangelical publishing from the 2016 calendar year among 177 print and 58 digital member periodicals. Members include some of the most recognized names in the world of Christian publications.

Influence also received a third-place award in the Feature Article category for “Homelanders: The Next Generation,” by Tim Elmore, the cover story for the August/September 2016 issue. Influence designer Steve Lopez took home a fourth-place award for Publication Design.

In the Award of Excellence category, which acknowledges overall quality compared to peer publications, Influence received a third-place award.

“The creativity and strength of this publication are in the ideas presented and in the publication’s willingness to tackle tough issues,” one judge wrote.

Another said, “The energy of this publication is delivered by the vibrancy and the modern feel of the design. It’s playful at times, serious and somber at others, but it always manages to sustain a uniformity of design.”
