Choco De Jesús challenges readers to strive for God’s best

Dennis Rivera on April 24, 2018

I finally realized that not only does God’s more never end, it has no ceiling,” writes Choco De Jesús in his new book, Move into More. “God loves to blow the roof off of our expectations!”

De Jesús challenges the thinking of believers and leaders who find themselves so satisfied with life goals, material possessions or even ministerial success that these things hinder them from moving into more of God himself. He points out that what may look like our greatest assets from a human perspective can become our greatest liabilities.

What promotes us can also blind us and cause us either to fall short of God’s best or conclude the race crossing the wrong finish line.

De Jesús weaves in his personal story of how God led him on a journey of learning to trust and obey Him. As the pastor of one of America’s largest and fastest-growing churches in Chicago, De Jesús discovered what he longed for was not more material or ministerial success but more of God.

The stories of Bible characters like Abraham, Peter and Paul are used as examples of those who overcame the distractions, pitfalls, and temptations that come with God’s blessing, provision, and anointing, showing how they received the rich reward of an intimate relationship with God.

What promotes us can also blind us and cause us either to fall short of God’s best or conclude the race crossing the wrong finish line.

De Jesús also shares the story of King Saul, who did not finish well and whose life represents those who deceive themselves by not realizing that partial obedience is actually disobedience.

We are reminded that God wants His children to receive all that He has prepared for them. This book challenges readers not to miss their more by presenting excuses or being satisfied with less. De Jesús discusses the new spiritual paradigm and discipline that less is more — an about-face from past decades of prosperity gospel preaching.

De Jesús points to the story of the rich young man in Matthew 19. Jesus invited this young man to follow Him, telling him to sell his possessions and give the money to the poor. The young man walked sadly away from Jesus; he could not give up his stuff to gain more of God.

In conclusion, readers are encouraged to take the risk of following God’s plan to enter into His more. De Jesús uses the Parable of the Rich Fool from Luke 12 to make his point. This man had bumper crops and great material success.

But instead of using God’s blessing to bless others, the Rich Fool just stored it away, not knowing he would soon die. In the end, his greatest failure was not being rich toward God.

“You and I are limited in what we can give others,” De Jesús writes. “But with God, there’s no ceiling. God is himself the source of the fullness you long to experience deep in your bones, the contentment of having all you need, and the significance of giving all you have.”
